Mercurius Wageningen

Mercurius Wageningen is the study association for the students of the Bachelor Management- and Consumerstudies, Bachelor Economics and Governance and the Master Management, Economics & Consumer Studies. Mercurius is one of the biggest study associations of Wageningen with more than 700 members.

Mercurius is a study association, which entails that it is an organization for students who follow the same study program or specialization. Mercurius focuses on three key pillars as a study association: educational, social, and professional. Based on these three pillars, the association engages in three main tasks.

In the educational domain, Mercurius aims to contribute to the quality of education for the affiliated study programs. This includes organizing excursions and lectures, providing summaries, practice exams, and tutoring sessions, as well as offering discounts on books for our members. On a social level, Mercurius strives to help students integrate with their fellow students, both younger and older years, as well as students from the other studies within Mercurius. This focuses on the social aspect of various activities, such as networking drinks, parties, lunches, and events like bowling, pool, or laser tag. After all, people need to enjoy themselves and feel comfortable to perform optimally in other areas as well. Mercurius is happy to contribute to this. In the professional field, Mercurius helps students prepare for their future careers. This is done by providing information about internships and job opportunities and connecting students with companies through events such as company days and dinners with companies.

To ensure that all of Mercurius' goals are achieved, various committees assist the board in carrying out these tasks. Thanks to the active involvement of board and committee members, Mercurius can organize a wide range of activities that all members can benefit from.

In addition to the wide range of activities that exclusive members can participate in, Mercurius offers members even more. Members receive a discount on study books at the WUR shop (10-15%). They can also actively contribute to the association by, for example, doing a committee, so that they expand their network and acquire all kinds of skills that can come in handy later. Geschiedenis van de vereniging

A long time ago, on Monday November 5th 1962, the study association Mercurius was born. Although, at that time, it was not called Mercurius yet, but it was called “de Economenclub” (the economics club). This name, however, will never be forgotten, since it has become part of our association's quote (hup, hup, economenclub). The economics club was the study association for the bachelor household and consumer sciences, which we now know as the bachelor business and consumer studies. In the year 2000 the economics club and the study association of the bachelor economics of agriculture and the environment decided to merge, which became Mercurius. The name Mercurius was then chosen, because this is the name of the god of trade, commerce, financial gain, merchants and thieves. Until 2018, the bachelor health and life sciences was also part of the association, but as the program expanded, a decision was made to establish a study association specifically for this bachelor. This extensive history led to the Mercurius we now all know and which enriches many student lives. It has developed into one of the biggest study associations of Wageningen with now more than 700 members.

We strive to take a critical look at the functioning of the association in order to ensure that it performs optimally and thereby guarantee the continuity of the association.
